To Avigdor Arikha and Anne Atik, 24 April 1984: "My old head nothing but sighs (of relief?) of expiring cells. A last chance at last. I'll try. 'From where he sat with his head in his hands he saw himself rise and disappear.' Ineffable departure. Nothing left but try & eff it."

Note: "This line would be incorporated into Stirrings Still, which reads 'One night as he sat at his table head on hands he saw himself rise and go.'"
