Beckett contributed this 120-word text to Kenneth Tynan's erotic revue, Oh! Calcutta!, which also included work by Jules Feiffer, John Lennon, Sam Shepard and others. Beckett was livid when he discovered his opening stage directions were changed (on stage and in print) without his knowledge. In addition, he was the only contributor whose sketch was credited to him while the other contributors were not attributed to their respective sketches. He immediately withdrew his contribution from further productions.

To Francis Warner, 16 February 1970: "Thanks for letter with Breath apropos of which you will be edified to learn that as published by Grove Press it is enriched by the phrase 'including naked bodies' inserted after "unidentifiable rubbish". This forgery is presumably the work of Tynan - just as he changed my title to 'Prologue to O. C.' Grove must have got the script from him and their good faith is not in question." -The Letters of Samuel Beckett: 1966-1989, p. 223
