More Pricks Than Kicks

Dublin Core

Title

More Pricks Than Kicks

Subject

Beckett, Samuel, 1906-1989. More Pricks Than Kicks.

Description

Scarce first edition of this collection of ten short stories. Beckett had mixed feelings about its publication: excitement over his first book of fiction being published, but also fear that his friends and relatives would recognize themselves in it and be offended. The publisher, Chatto and Windus, failed to find an American press to partner with, and the book was met with mixed reviews and low sales.

To Thomas McGreevy, 9 October 1933: Chatto's took a short book of short stories called More Pricks Than Kicks, and paid me 25 pounds less 25% advance on royalties, which cheered me up for a time." -The Letters of Samuel Beckett: 1929-1940, p. 166
