Produced by Barney Rosset and Evergreen Theatre. Director, Alan Schneider; screenplay, Samuel Beckett; photography, Boris Kaufman. Originally released in 1964. Washington University also owns a 16 mm print of Film.

Film starred Buster Keaton in one of his final roles. It was Beckett's only screenplay and he took part in its production in New York City in 1964, on what would be his only trip to the United States.

To Avigdor Arikha and Anne Atik, 31 July 1964: "Filming finished yesterday. Am pleased with result. Remains to polish the montage and I'l come back, toward the middle of next I hope. It will just be a rough cut. What matters above all is to hit on organizing principles. The editor, Sidney Meyers, is a great bloke, a former professional viola player, I can rely on him for the final music. ... I think it will be called just FILM.
