Description
"Drawings for the illustrations to La Commedia di Dante shewn on the three following pages were made by R. Catterson Smith from the woodcuts of the edition of La Commedia printed at Venice in the year 1497 by Piero de Zuanne. It was necessary to make a number of modifications in the originals in order that the cuts might fit conveniently into my page, and these were done with no little skill, as may be seen by a comparison of the new woodcuts with the original cuts of the 1497 edition.
