Description

This is the phurba (phur ba; ritual dagger) that, according to legend, Tashi Namgyal (b.1640?) stuck into the ground at Mimi to create a reliable spring. Tashi Namgyal is one of the first of the Ngadag lineage to settle in Sama. His act symbolically opened the landscape for more intensive settlement making Mimi, which is situated across the river from Sama, a viable site for winter grazing.
