Description
This is the bookstamp of Salomon (also Solomon) Cohn (1822-1902), a German rabbi and author. He was born in Zülz, Prussian Silesia on March 24th, 1822. His grandfather was the famous rabbi at Fürth, Meshullam Solomon Cohn.
Salomon Cohn was educated at the Pressburg yeshiva and later at the gymnasium at Breslau. He received his PhD in Oriental languages and philosophy from the University of Breslau.
In 1847 he was appointed as rabbi in Oppeln, followed by positions in Maestricht and Schwerin. In 1876 he became rabbi of the Tiergarten Synagogue in Berlin. From 1878 until his retirement in 1894 he lectured on theoretical and practical homiletics at the Rabbinical Seminary in Berlin. Cohn died in Breslau on September 22nd, 1902 and bequeathed his estate to the Rabbinical Seminary of Berlin.
