Conrad Aiken to Isabella Gardner, July 1953.(Gardner's response to Aiken's letter)
Subject
Gardner, Isabella, 1915-1981
Description
Conrad Aiken to Isabella Gardner, July 1953. Gardner is responding to a letter from Aiken regarding his unhappiness with "Poetry's" publication of Dahlberg's review. Gardner says that she had nothing to do with "Poetry's" decision to run Dahlberg's review--she is only a first reader at the publication. She says that Karl Shapiro was unhappy with Aiken's criticism, but still has great respect for Aiken. Those that work at the publication did not anticipate the problems that would occur upon printing Dalhberg's reviw. Gardner says that she is sorry Aiken will not be submitting and poems to "Poetry"--she has enjoyed his work for many years.
