Description
Karl Shapiro to Isabella Gardner, February 4, 1955. Shapiro complements Gardner on her poem and her developed talent. He mentions that he is afraid of new situations. Shapiro says that Berkeley feels like a foreign land. He doesn't want to go back to Chicago because he was very unhappy there. He likes where he lives now because the people are friendly and he likes seeing the sun more. He mentions a gathering that he had at his home with old friends who were "Hollywood" types. Their behavior was shocking, at times, but Shapiro says that he still felt at home among them.
