Elizabeth Bishop to Gardner, May 1, 1957. Bishop thanks Gardner for the white azalea that Gardner gave her. Bishop enjoyed the lunch and the party that she had with Gardner. Bishop admits that she is shy. She tells Gardner not to worry about her poems being rejected by a Mr. Humphries. Bishop writes that she would like to buy a car and take it back to Brazil with her. She also talks of purchasing artwork from a gallery and is sending Gardner a gallery catalogue. Bishop is glad that Gardner likes the "Pound" poem. She mentions the gossip of Oscar having a son--and apologizes for listening to it because she's been away for 5 years and sometimes likes to listen to gossip. Bishop mentions that she and her friend Lota (Maria Carlotta de Macedo Soares) send their best wishes.
