Description
This is the bookstamp of Lelio (also Hillel) Della Torre (1805-1871), an Italian rabbi and professor. Della Torre began his teaching career in 1823 as a tutor in Hebrew and biblical exegesis at the Collegio Colonna e Finzi in Turin. In 1827 he was appointed as assistant rabbi there.
Two years later he began to teach Talmud, homiletics, and pastoral theology at the rabbinical college in Padua. He briefly occupied the rabbinical chair of Padua in 1869 during a vacancy. Della Torre continued his professorship at the rabbinical college in Padua until his death in 1871.
Della Torre was known for his mastery of languages, including Hebrew, Italian, and French. He published many Hebrew poems, periodicals and books throughout his lifetime.
