David H. Barry began his formal training in the United Kingdom in 1982, working for a hand bindery in Wales and remaining there until late 1993, at which time he was given the opportunity to emigrate to the United States. He says he was fortunate in being given the opportunity for employment by Mr. Mel Kavin at Kater-Crafts Bookbinders, where he spent three very happy years. He owns Griffin Bookbinding in St. Petersburg, Florida where he specializes in rare book restoration and fine hand binding. Barry comments on his meetings with Bernard Middleton, "On the occasions I have had in meeting with Mr. Bernard Middleton, he has always been helpful and encouraging, so it was a great privilege and pleasure to design and bind this book, as well as to work in the company of such talented binders.”
