Mary had a deep appreciation for Saint Louis and Washington University. She returned to Saint Louis as often as possible to visit her parents, and she always tried to make time to visit her alma mater whenever she was in town.
Mary was proud of her association with Washington University and contributed her talents during her post-graduate years as a teacher, guest lecturer and donor. The university also bestowed several honors upon Mary. She received a Distinguished Alum Award, an honorary degree, was Artist-in-Residence with the Performing Arts Department, and was chosen to give the inaugural "Adele Chomeau Starbird Memorial Lecture".
