Description
This is the bookplate of Pinkus Fritz (also Friedrich) Frankl (1848-1887), a German rabbi and author.
Dr. P. F. Frankl was educated at the yeshiva in Pressburg and later at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau. While Frankl was studying at the seminary, he simultaneously studied Orientalia at the University of Breslau and received his Ph.D. in 1870.
He became the secretary of the Wiener Israeltische Allianz (a society for the promotion of Jewish interests founded in Vienna in 1872) in 1875 and became rabbi of Berlin in 1877. In 1881, Frankl began teaching at the Lehranstalt für die Wissenschaft des Judentums, whose stamp also appears in the Brisman collection (see Bookstamp of Bibliothek der Lehranstalt für die Wissenschaft des Judentums).
Frankl was a prolific author and wrote many articles and some piyyutim (Jewish liturgical poems). Dr. Frankl's bookstamp also appears in the Brisman collection (see Bookstamp of P. F. (Pinkus Fritz) Frankl).
