Title Description - This book features a collection of color photographs which the author took while walking along different European motorways. The utilitarian design of crash barriers, rest areas, truck service stops, and sound barriers as well as the materials they are constructed with (steel, concrete, plastics, etc.) overwhelms what remains of the natural landscape. Indeed, as this book suggests, the contemporary landscape is the view from the highway. Excerpts from codes and regulations for the design of European motorways serve as an end piece, along with an essay, Action-System-Place by Daniel Stemmrich. Text in English and German. 29 June 2009 (printedmatter.org).
