This is the bookstamp of Aron Kagan (Aharon HaKohen), a Lithuanian rabbi. He was born in 1865 to Rabbi Yosef HaKohen and his wife Henya. His grandfather, Rabbi Abraham HaKohen, served as head of the rabbinical court in Goniądz.
Aron Kagan was responsible for marrying off his sisters to noted sages. Around 1882 he himself married Gitel, the daughter of Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaKohen, author of the famous book “Ḥafets ḥayim” and head of the yeshiva of the same name. Aron and Gitel had four children: Rabbi Avraham HaKohen, Rabbi Shelomoh Kahan-Kagan, Rabbi Yosef Hayim Kagan, and Rachel, wife of Rabbi Yehoshuah Mosheh Marminski.
Aron Kagan studied for many years under his father-in-law. Around 1903 he left to serve as rabbi and head of the rabbinical court of the Nowe Święciany municipality in Vilna. While living there he published a book of his sermons called “Zikhron Yosef” in 1924.
Two years later Kagan moved to Erets Yisrael (Palestine) where he taught Torah at the “Or Zoreakh” yeshiva in Jaffa. He died ten years later and is buried on the Mount of Olives.
