Reading Rilke
In 1999, Gass published Reading Rilke: Reflections on the Problems of Translation. Like his fiction and other non-fiction books, Gass weaves between topics and perspectives, in this case incorporating his personal experiences translating the complex verse of one of the 20th century's greatest poets with biographical sketches of the poet himself. Also included are dynamic new renderings of many of Rilke's key works.
