Description

Title Description - In this series of carefully executed hand colored and mounted laser prints and cut contact prints on colored card stock, Surek tells the story of a sort of cosmopolitan angel who, after arriving in the city, gradually transforms into a skyscraper topped with the sign "Welcome to New York." The series of images provides a literal map of the urban space through the photographs and overhead street maps, as well as structuring a symboic mapping of the identity of the "angel," through the gradual evolution of the lines of longitude and latitude which compose her body. 29 June 2009 (printedmatter.org).
