Description
Title Description - Without words and with one slow pan, this book of photographs portrays a whole world. Starting inside, with a shot of a young woman absorbed in her reading and the music on her headphones, the view moves outward into the streets, schoolyards, and empty lots of an Italian suburb. Although the sky is apocalyptically red, the images are not damning; they are intensely observed views of the order and disorders of growing up in suburbia. The book ends back inside, with a different person, head bent, listening to music and reading magazines. This smart refusal to close the circle with absolute coherence is the key to the subtle disruption this book enacts on the insular world it depicts. 29 June 2009 (printedmatter.org).
