Ospizio Aletti

Ospizio Aletti was founded by Bonafemina Aletti, the widow of Lorenzo di Graziano. The hospice was founded on April 20, 1375 in the parish of San Moise. The building itself is situated between Rio dei Fuseri and Corte dei Pignoli.

The committee responsible included Gregory Aletti, Balestrato Marina, and Cecilia, widow of Emolao di San Germiniano. The hospice was established to provide a stable residence, in a property adjacent to the hospice, for his wife and nephew Martino da Graziano. The hospice itself housed 11 poor widows. For a price of 10 ducats, widows were afforded a job, the ability to attend mass daily at the church of San Gimignano, and a community.

Despite records indicating 11 women living there, the small size of the building today does not have the space to properly accommodate 11; instead, today, the house has only six residential rooms: two rooms in each of the three floors connected through a central core and stair. The change in size may be attributed to changes made to the institution in the 18th century, which may have included a reduction of size.
