Giovanni Merlo's engraved view, ca. 1660s

Giovanni Merlo's view of Venice, an engraving from copper plates, was first published in the 1660s. A rare colored version of the perspectival view is held by the Newberry Library in Chicago, Illinois.  The Newberry has produced an interactive tool that allows visitors to the web page highlight particular sites to learn more about their history. A monochrome version of Merlo's view (and several others) can also be found at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Venice Project Center's Venetian Historical Map Explorer.
