Wladimiro Dorigo's Venezia Romanica (2003) - fourteenth-century Venice

Historian Wladimiro Dorigo and a team of supporting researchers relied upon extensive archival documentation to reconstruct the plan and functions of the fourteenth century city.  Each parish is represented with plans of the urban fabric from “before 1300”  and “between 1300 and 1360.” These are associated with excerpted text from the supporting documentation.  Although documentary lacunae prevent these plans from being complete and authoritative, they provide invaluable insights into the city’s historical appearance before the production of the De’ Barbari View of 1500.
